There's a new boutique in Surprise that caters to pet owners who want to help their four-legged friends go green.
Doggy Style Pet Gear. 17058 W. Bell Road. Suite 101. at the northeast corner of Cotton Lane and Bell Road, opened Jan. 19th. to give health minded pet parents a place to go to find natural holistic and organic products for dogs and cats.
Martin Narvaez and his wife, Isabella, left their careers as professional chefs to open the store because of their strong beliefs in echo-friendly products and lifestyles- and animals.
"I walk to work everyday," Martin said. "We're doing our part in going green. If we could get others to do their part, it would add up."
Narvaez has the store stocked with echo-friendly, natural, organic dog food, cat food and treats including frozen organic yogurt for dogs, natural and organic spa products by Happy Tails, and toys by Planet Dog.
There's also pet beds made from recycled plastic bottles and toys that are environmentally friendly.
"We're conscious all the way around," Narvaez said. Doggy Style Pet Gear's store hours are 9 am - 6 pm (Fall)
Both Narvaez and his wife were professional chefs who met in Brazil when Narvaez was teaching at a culinary institute and Isabella was a student.
The couple came up with the idea for the pet boutique after experiencing a tragedy with their bull terrier last summer 2007.
Narvaez had taken their 2 1/2 -year- old dog, Kimba, on a hike around the White Tank Mountain loop, starting before the sun was up. At some point in the hike the dog suffered heat stroke and died.
